    1. I was about to criticize the latest poll for missing “1970s”, then I looked up Utopia (Intellivision) and discovered that it was published in ’81. Oops. Any further back than that and we’re getting into PBM 4X like StarMaster (Schubel and Son), I guess. :)

  1. thanks for the show!

bah, i’m through with ES2….it bugs me that you can’t win ground combat as long as defender uses “conscript” decision, no matter how large the invading force is :(

  2. If you are enjoying the combat in OE Nate, I think you will enjoy Dom5 even more… Its similar in concept but even more interesting with more impactful pre-combat choices to make and even more ability to follow units during the replay.

      1. Nate, my intent is definitely not to give you more work. When you start getting excited about OE and how it works (especially combat), that makes me think you would like Dom5 an order of magnitude more. You and Micah should really compare notes because Dom5 and OE are the most similar recent 4X games.

And as an aside, getting burnt out with all the reviews? Sounds like it.

        Happy 200th!

  3. The decreasing DLC price with eventual roll-in to the base game is something I wished ALL devs would follow. it’s brilliant. The main problem would be communicating this model to the larger playerbase, because nobody would be looking for it.

Enjoyable show as always guys, thanks!

    1. I agree with Nate. Not sure that I understand the incentives for this DLC approach. I feel like the incentives should be clear and direct. If I like what a DLC offers, I will pay for it. If I know the DLC will get cheaper (eventually free) I will be tremendously tempted to wait (I have a backlog of owned but under-played games to keep me busy). If enough people feel that way, will the DLC1 make enough money to justify making DLC2?

      I am not convinced.

I would probably prefer a discount for bulk DLC purchases… e.g. if you get all 4 of our DLCs then you get a 50% discount. If you get 2 you get a 25% discount. This is on top of other sales etc.

      1. That’s another good idea, but I think that only large publishers/developers (like Paradox, firaxis, Amplitude and creative assembly) can utilize this model due to small indie groups not having the financial backing to release multiple paid dlc.

  4. Nate the ‘greatest trailer ever’ had perhaps the worst voice over in the history of voice overs. I couldn’t understand half of what the guy was saying. Terrible sound quality and uninspired reading. A pity, this game has serious potential.

  5. ASTROKINGS – I got samsung s5, s8 and nexus 7 and on that devices game do not what to install. “This app is incompatible with all of your devices.” I don’t know if dev is aware of that problem but that 3 devices are huge pile of market.
