  1. great show, thanks!
man star wars rebellion…..spend hundrets of hours on that game.

i hope predestination will add some more graphics….or maybe i have a bug….much planetary buildings still look like simple 3d objects (like the old placeholders).

  2. I keep unsuccessfully searching youtube for recent let’s plays of the Predestination (the title doesn’t make the search easy, BTW). Are you aware of any? Has it not really changed for the last 3 years (since your let’s play)? Is it very boring? Why nobody is showing it?

  3. I tried to give away Rebellion as I did not like and everyone just gave it back right away. I finally just tossed it in the trash. It ranked with Hive for me as a non starter.

  4. You can win “They Are Billions”, you just have to hold out for a certain amount of time and beat the final wave.

Nice rant about the AAA industry, inefficient money spending really is one of its bigger problems. I really don’t think the BF2 fiasco came about due to poor explanations. They tied in-game combat bonuses and progression to their “bawxes”, simple as that. Overwatch loot is purely cosmetic though I’d say it’s still unethical (aka gambling) if you’re spinning the wheel and paying money for a random item, it’s just less egregious than what EA did.

  5. Nate, that was a GREAT rant at the end. Just saying. :)

Enjoyable show guys, thanks! ES2 has hit a really fun place for me right now, I’m playing it almost as much as XCOM Long War. I’m hoping Stellaris and GC3 will get there as well at some point — but GC3 keeps going through massive balance changes (e.g. the very recent sqrt(defence) change), and Stellaris will be a whole new game with the new expansion.

  6. Glad to hear Dom5 getting a little of the Plorminate lovin! Tip a cold one back for the giant god-killing Makone!

Also, I have to agreed w/ SOBorg, that it was a great rant Nate! Are we playing the games or are the games companies playing us?

  7. Nate’s rant is completely spot on!

On one hand games are more expensive to make but on the other hand they also sell a lot more copies than 10 or 20 years back so this shouldn’t be a problem. But if a triple AAA company can not turn a profit selling millions of copies that’s a problem with their efficiency. Most of the time they make crap games and spend too much on advertising so no wonder they fail. At the same time we can see that non AAA and indie market which is focusing more on making a better game and less on marketing will yield a better return on investment.

  8. Yo, Josh, love you man, but you are so wrong about Battlefront 2. It wasn’t a PR problem. Nate was spot-on with the whole damn rant and he was just as right about the fact that BF2’s loot boxes were tied to progression and that they could RADICALLY change gameplay. You could easily buy yourself an elite character that was OBJECTIVELY BETTER than a normal player. It was utter horseshit.

But fuckin’ A, Nate, you’re exactly right. That’s why I gravitate towards indie games nowadays more and more. I can name a dozen developers that have completely lost their way because of their stockholders and publishers.

  9. You don’t think that maybe Vaulters were the most played faction due to being super OP. In Endless Legend they got big science bonuses, huge strategic resource bonuses and could teleport their armies.
