  1. Stars in Shadow isn’t just “adding more zoom”. The game didn’t have a strategic zoom, only a tactical (in battle) one. It wasn’t clear if they manage to add it before the release. Now it seems like we are getting it!

The Eador’s author is basically saying that his game is what it is, and he wont bend it to any random request. He is right – the early access is about fixing/polishing, not about redesigning. Don’t know why he replied at all – may be felt obligated, the guy payed his money for the game.

  2. My Civ experience is 2, 4, and 5. Mostly 2 and 5.

I thought about this for a while after listening to this podcast, and I think I nailed down what bugs me about Civ.

It wants to be this tale of human civilization. But we didn’t follow a path of explore, expand, exploit, exterminate. That might be a very rough and massively simplified summary of history until like 1955, but after that we didn’t just have a knock out brawl with nuclear weapons and 21st century tech. Sure, you know, maybe that will change and we’ll all get killed by nukes and mechs in 2030, but right now it’s looking like asymmetrical and economic and ideological conflict is the end state, so far.

I’d like it if the advent of nuclear weapons made total war obsolete, leading into a 5th X.
