    1. It still uses the Clausewitz engine, which really is a testimony to the flexibility of this amazing engine. But I’m sure it has a whole lot of new engine-based code in the form of addons(?) or extensions(?) to make up for the vastly different type of game. So it’s hard to guess…

I’d say either a typical launch price in the high 40s. Or on the high 50s if those additions to the engine where heavy duty. That’s my guess.

    2. I saw on reddit that ppl were digging around the source code on the Stellaris website and it showed a $39.99 price tag. Not long after this got out that reference was removed from the code.

    1. eXplorminate will receive several advance copies. I don’t know if we’ve gotten an OK on LPs, but we’ll definitely be putting in the seat time and bringing you a release-day review!

  1. Unless they worked very hard to make this more accessible than their customary games this might be kind of a train wreck. Space 4x people like playable games.

We shall see. I pre-ordered the new ‘Master of Orion’ but I’ll certainly be waiting for the reviews and then some on this one.

  2. I couldn’t get into Crusader Kings. It was just too complicated. Two hours into the tutorial and I still hadn’t figured out half of the UI. I ended up getting a refund rather than sink any more time into figuring it out. I don’t know if I’ve just gotten impatient with age or what, but it was definitely not a game for me.

I’m assuming that Stellaris is going to be more in line with Crusader Kings than more “traditional” 4Xs like Endless Legend or Civ?

    1. The first half of the game will be very 4X’ish, okay, maybe not half, but a third. Then as your empire gets bigger and bigger and your borders run up against other empires, it will become more Grand Strategy. The idea is to be a lot more approachable for new players.

      1. Thank you. I will check it out then. I loved the idea of Crusader Kings. I was so convinced that I’d love it, I even plunked down for all of the DLC. It was just a little overwhelming I guess.
