Let’s Play Miniseries: Polaris Sector Beta 7B

Join Rob as he plays as Polaris Sector’s space babes, the Magellan, and highlights gameplay of the upcoming Polaris Sector, due March 22nd through Slitherine. Our very own group member, Ufnv (Vladimir Ufnarovsky), is the main developer behind it and it is truly shaping up in to something special!

  1. Just watched th first two episodes. Awesome stuff! Thanks for doing this, Rob.

    Was getting mad at you through the first minutes of Ep. 1, lol. I wanted to shout “Yellow planets! Yellow planets! Has he forgotten MoO?”. And you were like all over red giants and white dwarves :p

    – Many changes since the first couple of videos you did on it, Rob. The UI looks very slick and the game really has an overall pleasant look. Love its looks. The game map art is also slightly better, right? I seem to see some changes from the first videos. But you have to know I’m watching these at 360p.

    – It was a complete surprise to me seeing the enormous races list with long and detailed background info. Awesome! That’s a far cry from the one race of the early alpha videos. Keep it up Ufnv! I love to read on 4x games. And to annoy Rob, may I suggest a race who can’t speak English well and its background and diplomacy text is all in Engrish. Do it and I’ll bow low to you!

    – I hope there’s some tech that allows me to create star lanes. Feels really weird to have to go through 3 star systems to reach a final destination that is closest to my original star than the ones I had to go through.

    – Speaking of which, would be great to know if there is any AI involved in the creation of those randomly generated maps. In particular how the star lanes are decided.

    – About ship design… was it my impression or the game forces the modules to snap to a grid that isn’t aligned with the ship areas? I mean, I could swear Rob was trying to place a fuel module which occupies a 2×2 space, but couldn’t because it the grid snap wouldn’t align properly to a 2×2 area. Am I wrong?

    – And finally, Colonization plans are quite cool. But in already colonized planets I saw on the bottom left corner these bars. Can I adjust my plans on already colonized planets in a manner similar to MoO, in which I define partial percentages for each of the development options?

    Awesome looking game. I agree with Rob, really looks special and shows the love in its making.

      Yes, there are both a technology to create star lanes and a technology to travel without star lanes!
